Zones?

Can anyone help me? I have borrowed a book from the library about easy plants to grow. It's intended for novices but all the plants say that they are 'suitable for zones 7-9' etc. There is no map in the book telling you what the zones are

So how can I find out what zone I am in?

Many thanks

the Zones are in the USA. Although in theory they do work over here - most of the UK is 8 or 9 - in practice our climate is more moderate and damper than the USA. So while Zone 9 goes from -7 to +30 degrees, which is true of the UK, lots of bits of the usa will spend far more time at -7 or +30 than we will and will be much dryer too.

take it back and get a nice British book - the plants will be right too!

www.uk.gardenweb.com's got a map and the information you need

Aha that makes sense, thanks - though I thought this book was British. How annoying. I'll try again with a better book - any suggestions?
