White powdery stuff on hawthorn hedge

We planted a hawthorn/blackthorn hedge last year and it has been doing well so far this spring, but has recently developed what looks like a white powder, but is sticky. Any ideas what it might be and how to treat it?

Could be powdery mildew .

The other thing that hawthorns are prone to is wooly aphid - which looks like a sticky powder to start with but eventually starts to look like cotton wool.

Thanks for the links! The powdery mildew looks like the likely candidate. It's been very dry recently so will try watering the hedge and see if it improves.
