A neighbour kindly gave me lots of plants when I was making a new border, and I’ve remembered most of them but not this.

It’s grown quite large, flopped all over the plant next to it, and hasn’t flowered as far as I can recall.

What do I do with it? It’s not dying off in the frost, but do i cut it back now? It’s growing new leaves from its centre.

That is a hardy geranium. You can cut the dead or dying leaves back now.

yes geranium.. it will have small flowers - probably purple - and come back each year

Yes, looks like Johnsons Blue to me:

As Alternative said cut it right back to the ground now. Wear gloves though as it's fairly common to get a bit of a rash from geraniums.

Thanks! I wonder why it didn't flower?

if it was new in, it may have just been establishing a root system.. I expect it will next year.. they can grow quite big, but if its the first year i wouldn't cut it back .. )

I have Johnson's Blue in my garden. It didn't flower this year because I transplanted in the spring. It will flower next year.

I recently cut mine back as the leaves were going brown. This is normal. Geraniums are very hardy plants and the bees love them. Your plant will look great next summer.

A while ago now...it has burst into flower. I’m not sure it’s worth all the space it takes up! I’ve got a small tree peony behind it and it’s drowning.

Those flowers are blue! Look very purple in the photo.

You will get a long flowering season from it, so I’d just prune off the leaves that cover the Peony.
I like this type of geranium, they often fill the gaps when there are few flowers in the garden.

Thanks. Border is a bit packed, I’ll see how it goes.
