Does it still count as Autumn for seed planting purposes?

In London - weather mildish. Have some seeds for planting which say plant in autumn - poppies and also some others. Is it too late to plant seeds that say 'plant in autumn'?

I am not sure whether poppies need a cold spell. They do need disturbed ground though. Last autumn I sowed two packs of poppies around the garden. Nothing came up, no seedlings. After which, I sowed one pack of another sort in the spring, and was rewarded with lots of poppies of this type. So maybe hedge your bets by saving half for spring?
