How the hell do I kill off this blardy pampas grass?

Title says it all really.

We inherited the pampas grass from previous owners (not sure if they were swinger or not ). I'm in the process of chopping it down but have so far had the next door neighbour and the postman tell me that it's a bugger to get rid of, so all help appreciated.

TIA.

You have to burn it. Trim back as much as poss, then set light to it.

As AC said...My Mum had to do it in her front garden & then she dug up a foot of soil to get rid of all roots.

marymillington · 05/04/2007 13:39

burning doesn't get the roots out. you have to dig the root ball out. which is very hard. get a man in to do it.

AnnabelCaramel · 05/04/2007 13:40

yay, forgot to mention roots. It's a pig of a job. And you get cut to ribbons too.

Sounds like a job for DH. We can't burn it as it's next to a fence, but I'm sure he can be manly and dig it out

Thanks for the quick response all!

impossible

LilRedWG · 05/04/2007 13:42

Waswondering - nope, but we inherited fake beams on the ceiling, a brick built fireplace and a doozy of a '70's fire! It's all going in the skip this weekend! The house is 1970's, so the beams et al are not exactly in keeping with the age of property!

Right - I'm getting back to being cut to ribbons hacking the bloody thing down! Thanks again all!

I had to google them, never heard of the name, but I remembered them as soon as the image came up - there used to be loads of them!

Rootout stumpkiller. It has never failed me yet.I mix it with wallpaper paste so it sticks to the leaves & paint it on.Bye bye Pampas grass.

LilRedWG · 06/04/2007 09:47

Oooo - thank you! DH wants to keep the bloody thing so I may have to do secretly and then say, "Oooops, it seems to have died!"
