Winter tidy up

I have the next 2 weeks off. I want to get some jobs done around the house. Is it too early to cut plants back? They finished flowering ages ago and look untidy. My son massacred the hedges for me ( asked for a trim not a butcher) and I've got an very unruly butterfly bush that's turned into a small tree. I've also got loads of spring bulbs. Too early? I'm crap at gardening. Also how the hell do I get rid of bramble apart from a flame thrower?

Bramble, you need a strong fork to dig it out, and get right underneath all the roots.

Butterfly bush I assume is buddleia, and should be cut down almost to the ground in March/April, or take off excess branches in Autumn to prevent winter wind-rock.

Have you bought the spring bulbs, or have you dug them up? Anyway, they can probably be planted in autumn.

The bramble is in my hedge but I will give it a go.

You'll not kill buddleia...cut away...

You're probably better off trying to glyphosate the brambles if they are in the hedge.
