We have a war memorial in our village that isn't well cared for, the area was set aside as a 'nature reserve' which sounds nice in theory but in practice is an excuse for the Parish Council to not pay a gardener and the place is overrun with ivy and stinging nettles.
Myself and some volunteers have gained permission to start clearing and tidying up the area.
The war memorial itself has a thin border round it, were talking 30cm wide type thing so nothing huge. I was thinking planting white and red cyclamens as they would flower at the right point but they don't seem traditional somehow. Can anyone think what could go here? that would look nice all year round but particularly around Remembrance Sunday
