CALLING ALL THOSE WITH APPLE TREE KNOW-HOW... HELP ME PLEASE

Hi,

We have a section of fencing, east facing, along which we wish to plant some apple trees. (in a move to eat some pesticide free ones)

Now, I have been looking at those which are grown espalier style, and am also taken with the 'double U' shaped ones. They need to stay 'flat' as opposed to tree shaped due to space issues.

Crocus have two lovely types of U shaped ones, but they say to get some within the same flower family to encourage cross pollonation to ensure apples will grow. I have space for approx 3 trees. Can anyone recommend 3 appletrees which I can grow espalier style (or which have been grown in double U shape) which will cross pollinate eachother so we can have apples.

I hope this message makes sense, I don't quite understand it myself and the ramblings of a frustrated gardener spring to mind...

Thanks in advance for all your help!

afraid i dont know the answer...

but i do know my dad has an apple tree in his garden, been there only 3 yrs and it is spliced or something... so it makes 3 different kinds of apple, over a longer season. makes loads too. v impressive i thought.

so maybe you are not limited to only 3 types?? (that just makes the decisions harder tho, doesnt it??)
