Can anyone rescue this mess? *pictures*

So I decided to paint our decking as the previous owners left it and we left it over winter.
I started with a Cuprinol autumn gold (orange!) that hubby bought. It's the wrong colour. DH has left got some more (ronseal rich mahogany) so I've gone over it. I was looking whilst having a break and thinking how rubbish it looks and I've realised I've just used decking stain.

I've come to the conclusion that neither I or DH have a clue what we are doing and that it's now totally messed up!! Can any wise MNer please give us a hefty shove in the right direction on how to rescue it please?

ThanksZ

Ours was in a similar state. We scrubbed the hell out of it with soapy water and when it was bone dry applied several coats of decking oil in a fairly dark colour. After a couple of years of recoating it's looking pretty good.

I think you can get products that strip any old stain etc off first but I wasn't keen on using such strong chemicals.

I'll have a look. I did pressure wash it but I think my hopes of just whacking some more paint in a darker colour over it are fading

Maybe I could just stick a dark brown over it, it would work on a wall right? Confused
