Could you kind people share photos of what your asparagus looks like right now ?
I've an allotment plot with a row of asparagus planted before a year or two before I took over the plot. It's sort of where you'd expect a path to be. Usually the fellow plot holders mow them down for me but they haven't this year (yet). So I'm thinking I'll mark their position (just in case...) and then move them. But from reading it sounds like moving established plants isn't worth it - but I think mine are so weedy it might work.
However the allotment soil is rubbish, so instead I could lift and put in my garden's raised bed. But I don't know how much room they take up at this time of year - hence my request for photos !!
