Plant detectives needed! What is this please?

This is growing in a woodland border. We're landscaping the garden, so lots of stuff has been cleared but this has sprung back.
There's a stump in the middle, suggesting it was a shrub or something. I think there was a guelder rose somewhere in that area and the leaves look similar but I thought the stalks would be woody not square and soft like this.
Help me pleases. Is it a plant or a weed?

It has a maple-like appearance, possibly Sycamore?

I think it's new suckers from the guelder rose (Viburnum opulus). Would expect them to be very soft, sappy and fast growing coming from an established rootstock (the old stump)

Thanks both!
Looking again I think Trethew has it, soft, sappy and fast growing is exactly what they are. is it OK to leave them grow?

Yes, if you would like a guelder rose in that position. I would wait until they have come through the winter and select the best and strongest few shoots to grow on, and remove the rest
