My poor black lace plant

My beautiful, huge black lace plant that has adorned the corner of my garden is seemingly dying.
The leaves are all drooping and falling off.
It has been doing so well and is about seven years old. Does anyone have an idea about what could have caused it? I'm so sad. Sad

They like a damp soil and it's been very dry recently, that might be it.

It might recover and come back next year. Do you normally cut it back hard in the spring ?

They are cheap to buy and fast growing, so I'd go out now and buy another one and plant it in a big pot and look after it. Then youlll have a replacement if your other one doesn't make it Sad

Thanks Kr1stina. It's had lots of water but it's not perking up. It's like it's been poisoned. The other plants around are perfectly healthy.

I could buy another one but it's so well established, with a really thick trunk that it would take years to grow to the same size.

Yes, I cut it back earlier in the year. Fingers crossed it comes back next Spring.

Mystery solved. It's been attacked by aphids.

Ooh yuck.
Is it recovering?

Kr1stina · 29/07/2017 09:29

Good you've found the cause . Have you sprayed it ?

Speckledtulip · 29/07/2017 16:29

I've sprayed it and there are a few shoots appearing. Looking very sorry for itself though. Normally the best thing in the garden at this time of year. Such a shame!

It's got some time to recover a bit this year
