What can we plant as seeds now?

What can we plant as seeds in our veg patch? Carrots and Brussels sprouts died in the heat wave, and I want to try again but every seed packet I pick up says 'plant in March/april'.

We want to grow stuff over the summer! Not fussy what, and it's a tiny veg patch so it's not made for much!

Loads of salads - lettuce, mizuna, pak choi, chinese cabbage, etc (orientals best after midsummer as less inclined to bolt)
Just about time for a late sowing of dwarf french beans if you pick an early (ie quick maturing) variety
Beetroot, carrots, fennel all to pick small before autumn.
Spring cabbage to overwinter and eat as spring greens
Swiss chard / leaf beet (best sown now less likely to bolt)
Kale to overwinter
Coriander / parsley
Sure there's other things!

If I had a tiny veg patch and was sowing now I'd probably just fill it with swiss chard and kale because you can pick both for so long & they're such good value (but I do like greens!!!)

Radishes are very quick to grow, and you could probably manage chillies if you're quick about it (I windowsill garden, mostly, and plant chillies throughout the year). I'm also growing a few lemon trees - have yet to find out how they cope with a British winter - might be worth a try as the seeds come free with every lemon :)

Peas, the compact ones that only grow to about 40 cm. we just put our 2nd lot into the ground and the are growing really quickly.

This is awesome thank you! I'm going with peas as they are quick, kids will like that, and Swiss chard because it's got a cool name.

Anyone order seeds online and have a website to recommend?

We just got our pea seeds from Lidl.
