horse manure!

My neighbour has just given me 4 bags of fresh horse manure, mixed with straw. I know it has to rot down before I can use it on the garden, what's the best way to do this? Can I layer it on the compose heap?

yes, you can layer it on the compost heap - it will make a fab mix with grass cuttings and rot really quickly. If you are going to get a regular supply you might want to make a dedicated heap - it's supposed to rot for 6 months before you use it.

That's great advice -- thanks nowornever. We have an abundance of grass cuttings and as much horse manure as I want. Do I mix them up in roughly equal proportions?
