Do I have a problem with my chives? Pic

My chive plant has little bits on it close to the roots - if you can see. It's yet to be planted outside but has been close to the window and watered etc. Seems to replenish quite well but just noticed these 'spots'.

Is it a gonner?

Are they aphids? Do they brush off when you touch them?

foodiefil · 13/07/2017 09:44

Yes they do. Have tried to brush most of them off and spritz with white wine vinegar - no idea why I did that but I have. How can I stop them coming back? Thanks for your reply

You need ladybirds! Grin (they eat them). I think you can buy them online and set them loose on your plant.

I spray my plants with a diluted washing up liquid, but I use that for roses and things. I'm not sure if it would be wise to spray it on something edible... I'm sure someone will be along soon to with a bit more knowledge. I do also use a chemical spray for the really badly effected plants, but again, wouldn't spray something edible with it!

I'd plant it outside where the natural predators can get at the aphids. Chives are pretty indestructible and if you let it flower the seeds will self sow.

Yes I need to repot and get it outside I think. This weekends task! When do the flowers come back? Had two but they came off - they were pretty

It should produce some more flowers once its happy outside and putting on more growth.
