Why doesn't my lavender flower?

I have 2 lavender plants bought and planted in the last couple of months. They appear healthy enough but all colour seems to have been drained out of them, the flowers disappeared. Can lavender just dislike my soil?

Where do you have them planted? Lavender does best in sunny, well drained sites. They'll sulk in shady and/or very damp places.

Did you tease out the roots before planting? I'd dig one up to check the roots aren't tightly compacted. If the foliage colour is pale perhaps they're overwatered?
Infuriating isn't it op?!

They're out the front of the house, in front of the kitchen window so definitely the sunniest spot. I didn't tease out the roots and the leaves are really pale because I planted them along with a load of other plants and watered like crazy because I didn't want them to die! Come to think of it, I do have one lavendar plant in the back garden that is doing well so I don't think it's the soil.

It's SO frustrating!!! I see these gorgeous bountiful deep purple flowers on other's gardens and get really jealous! Blush

Looks like a bit too much watering could be the problem. Lavender is native to dry, mediterranean lands so they don't want their feet to be constantly wet.

I see. I've planted them either side of a (newly planted) herb garden. Do you think it'll be alright if I hold back on the watering? It's been so hot and it was only planted a couple of months ago.

They're not being nibbled by rabbits are they?
