AstroTurf- will cats trash it?

Our paved garden was an error. It's now knackered and gappy and uneven and just horrid. Nice borders with established stuff like magnolia and holly but they encroach massively into what's a small space. I'm looking into Astro turf but ha e cats. Will they go nuts and scratch it/poo on it? Any experience please?!

We have a smallish piece of AstroTurf under the outside bench for the cat to sleep on, he absolutely loves sitting on it. He doesn't claw or poo on it. Main problem is that the cat hair sticks to it and looks a bit messy. But it might be easier to manage over a larger area.
