Taking holly cuttings

Hello knowledgeable gardeners. Some advice, if you would be so kind.
Can I take holly cuttings this time of year?
I've decided to take out a large holly bush which is in the wrong place, and would like some cuttings to start new plants.
Google informs me that these would be hardwood cuttings and are best done in the dormant period before growth starts.
Are they likely to succeed if done now? No harm in trying I suppose. I have compost and rooting powder. Should I pinch the growing tips out?
Thanks.

SFGate how to propagate Holly has a good guide. It says you can do it in early summer. As you are digging it up, have you thought about doing some root cuttings? I am hopeless usually at propergation , but I do find that root cuttings work better.
