What pesky wildlife is pulling up my lettuces

So i've thinned/ spread out my lettuce seedlings this week.

And every time I walk past that area now, another one has been pulled up and just left.

Could it have been blackbirds? I'm sure the woodpigeons would actually eat them

Trying to put them back in but at 33 weeks pregnant, I'm a bit inflexible!

Could be any number of things, birds, rabbits, deer etc. Best thing would be to net them ime.

Net the lettuces that is, not the wildlife Blush

I can guarantee it isn't rabbits or deer. Never seen them and the dogs would never let them anywhere on the property.

Will have to get husband to help me do some netting later as the currants probably need it too

Blackbirds is a good guess, they tend to pick things out to get at whatever might be underneath. I have one enterprising blackbird who takes out every bit of bark mulch under my blueberries to see what might lurk underneath. All seedlings in my garden are netted for this very reason.
