FROnt garden help, please!

I'm a total novice but would love to make this look nicer.
Could anyone tell me what I have growing? I've seen this bushy one with blue flowers growing up over a neighbours fence, how do I make mine do that? Am I able to just dig up the tree in the middle and pop a new one there or is it more complicated than that?

Is there anything I should get rid of or cut back? I think I'm basically asking what you would do with this if it was yours?

The tree in the lawn looks like a silver Birch. You can dig it up and put something else there. A tree that size might be worth a few bob if you want to sell it.

I would say that before you decide what to do In your garden you need an idea of what you want it to look like. If you look on Pinterest and put in garden landscapes, thousand if ideas will come up. Save the ones you like and you will soon find a particular garden style appearing over and over again. Sometimes it is a colour that dominates, or maybe mad colourful gardens, tranquil peaceful gardens, grasses, great big plants, little tiny neat rows. One thing to remember is there is no right or wrong in a garden. It is all about what looks good to you.

You do need to have an idea of plants/ styles you like

E.g. I'm trying to have cottage garden borders with lots of perennials, more to the blue end of the spectrum and a veg bed but that's what I like and, with an early Victorian property, also suits the house.

Have you thought of a climber for the fence? Climbing hydrangea or a clematis? They would give both height and flowers. Both could be evergreen.
It depends on how much you want to retain the lawn, but you could widen the beds for more interesting planting.

Unless you REALLY NEED all that lawn, make the borders MUCH wider; 'curve' the edges by laying out hosepipe or string, looking at it for a while until you are happy, then cut the edges with a sharp spade and take off the turf. Put in a mix of plants; keep the tree.
