It's a willowherb. Very pretty pink flower but if it is allowed to go to seed it'll take over, as you say.

Thank you Smile

I'm almost 100% sure it's not willow herb
Not convinced it's a weed either.
Is it all over the garden or just in one spot?
I would be tempted to wait and see how it develops.

stayathomegardener · 14/05/2017 09:04

Willow herb image attached. Very different.
I see it is next door, can you just ask them?
It might be a toad lilly but don't quote me.

I asked them last night as it is everywhere and they had no idea :) will take a photo later of the bigger plants, they grow to about 40cm tall, no flowers on any of them

Agree with Stayathome def not willow herb, and probably toad lily (Tricyrtis). They don't flower till late summer

aircooled · 14/05/2017 21:22

Looks like Saponaria officinalis or soapwort. It does tend to run but I tolerate it because it has scented pink flowers in late summer. If it is soapwort you can make soap from the roots...

Dangerismymiddlename · 15/05/2017 08:06

Could be soapwort, it has long roots that seem to be just under the surface of the soil. I took a photo of their roof (!), it really is everywhere :)

Ok Toad Lilly would not be growing on the garage roof, that has seeded there and Toad Lilly reproduces vegetatively.
I'm not convinced roof weed and garden weed are the same.

Could you put the two together and photograph them? And/Or procure one from the garage roof including roots?

stayathomegardener · 15/05/2017 17:16

Roof weed could be willow herb.

CiderwithBuda · 15/05/2017 17:19

We have lots of this too. Pink flowers. Had no idea what it is.
