I was sure it's ground elder but I'm doubting myself now just to double check does this look like it?
In some parts it's all over the ground and some parts partly covered

Hard to tell just by the roots. Do you have a picture of any leaves. They are hand shaped.

Could well be ground elder. Or maybe bindweed.

Both have similar chunky long cream roots that break and grow new plants.

But it is hard to tell from root alone

I haven't got any pictures of the leaves mowed a couple of days ago the roots are yellow if that helps?

Could be ground elder but could also be tree roots or something? (we have lots and lots of roots of all sorts in our garden which gets confusing when I psych myself up to go after the ground elder ...)
