Lawnmower for large lawn.

So, our lawnmower is constantly breaking down. Buying lawnmowers was dh's job but he sadly died last year and ds1 and I are a bit clueless. We have a large garden, about 1/3 of an acre and we need something that can manage that reasonably well. Unfortunately can't afford a sit-on one and am assuming a petrol one will cope better than an electric? The current heap of crap lawnmower is petrol and I'm fairly sure it's over 10 years old. I am finding myself totally confused by the differences in price in that you seem to be able to buy them from around £200 on Amazon but our local seller of lawnmowers has a range that start from €1000 ( we're in Ireland) and I'm honestly not sure why one is so much more expensive than the other. Any recommendations or suggestions would be very welcome.

A good petrol one is best. We have a biggish area of grass, and we have a Hayter. DH says you need a proper metal deck, not plastic ( thats the bit near the ground, the engine sits on it) 18" cut will make sense, and a self drive too. . You do pay for it though, but ours has not ever given us bother, and its at least 20 years old! ( our Hayter now sells somewhere about £400 in UK) other good makes are Atco and Honda.

Tried to Google for link but couldn't see matching pic. Closest is
this but perhaps we've got an old version of this one.
The bag fills up quite quickly and with front and back lawns we often fill a wheelie bin and a couple of big collection bags too.
My fil got it for us from auction, brand new it would be more expensive. Can anyone help you get a second hand one?
