Hi all, im moving into a rented house with a garden (finally). I dont know much about gardening but would like to make it look prettier. Im also after something to make the garden more private but nothing drastic as its rented. Thanks everyone

What would you do?

To start I'd put some bamboo in pots along the right hand side to screen the neighbours. I grew some in large, cheap plastic pots and when I moved to transport, I cut them down to about 30 cms, they soon sprang up again. Perfect for a renter.
Climbers such as honeysuckle, rambling roses can also be grown in pots and pruned for moving.
I'd use plastic pots as they are lighter, you can always stand one in a dercorative ceramic pot.

What about a cheap climber (the £2.99 from Aldi kind) up that back fence too? You could chop back that ivy and replace it with rather more interesting things - what way does the wall face? If it's fairly sunny and sheltered, you could do something like a hardy kiwi vine which would give you a crop.

Herbs in pots are obviously useful to eat as well as pretty.

Not plants - but fairy lights! Fairy lights EVERYWHERE for when you want an evening glass of wine out there to sip as you enjoy your handy work.

B&Q do a range of garden stuff for renters - like click-to-fit decking and screening.
