I saw potato bags at the garden centre and thought about getting some. Are potatoes easy to grow and when would I need to plant them.

Hi I've sucessfully grown potatoes in a compost bag for a couple of years now, just roll down the bag to about 6 inches and just top up the bag and roll up the sides as the potatoes grow. Check out this link \link{http://www.bestgardening.com/bgc/howto/vegepotato01.htm}

potatoes are obligingly easy to grow but you do need to keep them well watered. Traditionally you plant them on St Patrick's Day. wallerbies is right - you don't need to buy anything flash to grow them in. my best ones every year are the ones that grow themselves in my compost heap from tiddlers I chucked away the year before.

Thank you so much. You just saved me from buying something I didn't need.

I'll buy some compost and have a go.
