Pet friendly slug pellets

I think it's unlikely my cat will nibble on slug pellets but it would be good to have peace of mind. Does anyone know if there's any such thing as pet-safe slug pellets? Or do I have to just resort to wool/eggshell/cooper barriers etc (which haven't really done much for me in the past)?

Yes there are now slug pellets which are approved for organic use.

The active ingredient in these is ferric phosphate. They come in blue pellet form and are used in the same way as the traditional slug pellets which contain metaldehyde as the active ingredient. You need to look at the packets carefully.

However, most cases of pets being poisoned by slug pellets occur when they have access to a spillage of pellets, or the container. When the pellets are scattered sparsely as recommended, they pose little threat to pets.

What about using nematodes instead? I've found Nemaslug very effective. That way there won't be ugly pellets left lying around.
