I love this plant but can't think of it's name. Anyone know?

What's this?

Teasel?

Cosmicglitterghoul · 21/11/2016 10:37

That looks right. Thanks!

Yep teasel is great for birds! There is a wildflower meadow next to my allotment and the finches flock in to grab the seeds. You see all these bright flashes of red and yellow when you drive up. Lovely.

Perfect. I want plants that attract birds. I wonder if I can buy it as a plant or seed only?

It self seeds like nobody's business. There is some on my allotment.

Yamadori · 22/11/2016 18:14

It's a native plant so it will seed itself.

Cosmicglitterghoul · 22/11/2016 18:31

It's not currently in my garden unfortunately.

It is usually in wildflower mixes, or can be bought as seed, or if you have some locally, grab a dried head (with gloves on, it is spikey), get some seed out and sprinkle it where you want it.

Just note though that it flowers in its second year as it is a biennial, so if you sow it now, it wont flower until spring/summer 2018. So make sure you dont weed it out in the meantime.

Thanks Chuck
