I have just started my own gardening round in stepney east london.Tend do all gardening by hand tools no pesticides are used.My hourly rate is £8.50 is this to much

We pay £13 and £15 to two different guys; plus they get coffee and cakes.

I'm assured by those in the know that the going rate for gardeners in NW London is £15ph. This from people at Capel Manor college.

I pay £15+ per hour outside London, so you could probably charge more.

Why not do an introductory offer?

£8.50 now, rising to £15 in the spring (when more people are likely to look for gardeners).

Are you covering your costs for £8.50? Do you have a van to carry all your tools to the job? Petrol costs. Cost of tools. Plus insurance and other business costs.

Hand tools? Do you use a push mower? That'll be a lot of work if someone with a big garden takes you on. Otherwise, petrol mowers are not cheap to buy.

When I had a gardener, I seem to remember I paid her £35. She came round once a month and only spent an hour doing my garden, but she was so efficient that she did in that hour what it would have taken me an entire day to do. Was worth it for me.

just because some charges £15.00 to £20. 00 does not neccessarily mean they are any better. ITjust means they take longer to do the job
