Mystery plant! Help please

We've just moved to a new house and there is a mystery plant in the garden...anyone know what it is?

The stems have quite coarse hairs, and there seem to be 'spikes' a bit like some climbing plants make. I wonder if it could be courgette, marrow or gourd?

Yeah we thought it had a slight look of squash/courgette but it seems 'finer' than those. Perhaps something of the same family. It looks really healthy so I don't want to take it out if its something good/exciting, although it's taking up a lot of space.
