Plants for a border

I am attacking my front garden, well the gardener is Grin, and I'm trying to plan a border. I know nothing.

I have bought these two shrubs today as I want a red/pink/yellow colour scheme in this particular section. Would purple and orange go as well??

And does anyone have any ideas for some low level ground cover plants to edge along the path?

Yes, purple and orange is a classic combination! Both of those shrubs are good doers as well.

What way does your garden face and what kind of soil do you have? Campanula poscharskyana is pretty easy to grow, bomb-proof, has a long flowering season and works well as ground cover. Erysmium 'Bowles mauve' too.

Oops, sorry, that looks like I'm suggesting the Erysmium as ground cover! I'm not! It's a bush, but it does flower in purple pretty much 12 months a year.

Thanks Shove Smile Garden is North facing, here is a pic of what it looks like at the moment. New turf is getting laid tomorrow on main part, leaving a 2ft border all the way round for planting, along with narrow strip by fence.
