idea on cost of tree pruning?

I have a dead cherry Tree which I'd like to have pruned down so it just has the trunk and the 3 main branches so I can grow creepers over it. I could probably take of the top branches myself on a stepladder but I have got someone coming for a quote at the weekend. Any ballpark idea on how much I should expect to pay?

Depends on how big it is. Potentially a couple of hundred.

We have woodland and so have a lot of tree work done. To take out a medium sized tree is generally around £350. To be honest it might be more work if you want the trunk and three main branches to stay because that means they have to remove all smaller branches individually (rather than cutting off a main branch and all of its smaller branches in one cut IYSWIM)

Goodness! A lot more than I expected! Maybe I should have a go myself....

It will be as cheap to take the tree down as it is to heavily prune it. If it is dead take it down and plant something else. I've had a quote for taking down my cherry tree of £350 pruning was ~£300.
