growing roses in a container

I have a half whisky barrel - smells lovely- and would like to put a rose in it by the front door. I have lots of rose in the back garden but they are all in the ground.
Has anyone successfully grown a rose in a container before and if so what kind please?

I've got Gertude Jekyll (very fragrant David Austin rose) doing very well in a large container.

I've just put 'eyes for you' in a container. It's a beautiful flower and I didn't want it lost in the bed.

I have grown others in pots. Make sure you put in some fertiliser and that there's good drainage. Also that the container is raised off the ground.

Thr RHS we sight is helpful, on the subject.

I have a few in 30l containers.
only thing is they need watering and feeding regularly. but grow and flower really well.
(I have 'blue for you' and a yellow one)
