Honeysuckle woes.

My honeysuckle which I planted a few months ago has been growing well, but the bottom third has gone brown and the green leaves have a purple fluffy spot on them. I ve seen a few different suggestions online so thought I'd see what MN suggests.
Is it a goner?

Can't help with the purple spots, but my honeysuckle is very woody and brown at the bottom but growing very well. Bear in mind, however, I could never be accused of being a gardener.

Thanks! I did wonder if the brown was normal at the bottom...
