Ants on my paeonies

Ants on paeonies. Are they a problem? Will they damage the flower? Best treatment?

There seems to be a sort of coating on the buds that attract the ants, maybe it smells sweet to them? They don't actually do any harm to the buds, I don't think, I've often noticed the ants but never seen any damage.

I noticed this for the first time last year and was worried about damage to the flowers. Apparently they just taste nice to the ants and they don't do any harm. My flowers bloomed and I didn't notice any harm.
