Mice in my garden

I think they are under our cabin room which is at the end of the garden. They are coming really close to the house and don't seem that scared by us very much. At first I thought they were cute but have read they can carry disease and this is not such a nice thought and we have two boys to consider. Anyone have any tips for getting rid of them? They seem to be attracted to the bird feeders and have wrecked the peanut one by biting through the metal. This was a squirrel proof one which provides them with a handy cage to sit inside whilst they demolish the contents. Will catching the, in humane traps and driving them away (to the next county?) work? Help!!

As long as they aren't coming into the house, I wouldn't worry too much. There are far more mice than people realise living around us - as long as they're not indoors and in your food, I wouldn't think they're that much of a hazard. (I totally draw the line at them indoors though - that really isn't good). I watch a little mouse in my own garden via a trailcam each night!

There are probably also cats, hedgehogs, foxes weeing and pooing in your garden - just teach the kids not to shove everything they see into their mouths and to wash their hands after coming indoors.

I really wouldn't worry; we have all sorts in our garden...squirrels, voles, moles, harvest mice, hedgehogs, foxes etc etc and we are all ok. Handwashing with hot soapy water after pootling around in the garden is ample sufficiency

I would be going down the route of ceasing the bird feeding and putting down some poison. Either in or under your shed. Mice multiply very fast. A friend recently had what I can only describe as an infestation. They started outside but then quickly made inroads to her building. The mess they left behind was dreadful.

Our cat just sits and looks at them all

Mine rarely catches them but he has stopped them coming into the house.
