What to do in January?

Spent the evening looking through my books and making plans. Came online to look through seed catalogues but of course ended up here. Reading through the threads there are a lot of "what can I do when" questions - and a lot of links to sites with calanders etc. But seeing as we are all here instead I thought it might be useful to start some threads about what we can do now - so with that in mind what can we do in January?

According to my book Onion Seed and parsnips can go in mid-winter - does that count as now? Also much talk about seed potatos in the "pro" sites. Should we be down at the garden centre purchasing?

We dug our beds over this weekend and gave all the ropy looking stuff to the pigs. The sprouts looked awful - not that we ate any, and the purple sprouting brocoli too. Only to read up that it is just coming into its own now! Oh well it will taste better as sausages I suppose.

Anyway back to plants.......

Just got back from garden centre trip - couldn't resist in this sunshine!

Went to get some onion seeds as I understand these can go in now in the greenhouse. Also ended up with some Baby Rosanna Aubegines as it says they are ideal for pots and can be sown in feb. I also ended up getting someSweet Peas (sigarn'spice) esp for hanging baskets. Sow indoors in January. Should I grow them in loo rolls?

Was hoping to get some seed potatos but they only had big bags and I only need a few.
