Inside lavender plants?

Would this just be a crazy pants idea?

I want to grow lavender. The garden gets no sun. Not even grass will grow. I have a craft room/office which is open plan with my bedroom which has very good nature light/sun access. I also have hayfever to specific plants (privet/rape/black thorn etc).

Any ideas, comments, recommendations on this idea? Would be really helpful to 'talk' this through with someone who knows the impact this idea may have. fwiw you are crazy is a valid opinion I will accept if you explain it

Try it and see! Lavender does need lots of sun though, so you would have to put it in a very light part of the room. I can't see why it would be different than having a greenhouse. But light levels outside are still much higher than an apparently sunny room, your eyes adjust so you don't realise it to some extent. You need well drained gritty compost. Lavender is very cheap to buy, you can afford to just buy it for one season if it doesn't work. Or cuttings can be made with rooting gel from another person's lavender plant if you are very thrifty. You can even grow lavender from seed I think.

The room has a south facing roof window so light and direct sunlight is not an issue. I suspect you are right. I would love a posh lavender plant from the Norfolk lavender fields but it would be more sensible to experiment with a more local plant. Although cheap vs quality is something that concerns me I have had issues with easy to get plants that are just sickly.

I'm sure it can be done, though they do like loads of light so you want a really, really sunny windowsill! Lavender plants vary wildly in size, so get a compact one (maybe one of the French varieties?) or you may find half your living room is taken up by it!

Alternatively, have you thought about putting it in a pot by your door or a window box? Most houses with a north-facing garden have a south-facing frontage, though I guess in a flat this is less easy to use!!

No particular expert knowledge to offer but you need to create Provencal conditions I think. Lean soil, warm and sunny, do not over water.

My experience of greenhouse conditions is watch out for whitefly..seems much more susceptible when not in the fresh air, builds up very quickly, probably ditto to greenfly. You could put your lavender outside for a little spa breaks too, I often do that with indoor geraniums.
