Astro turf?

Is astro turf in the garden good or naff? We live in a terrace with a yard, there's a raised concrete area, at the moment it's got pebbles on and we couldn't have a lawn without digging it all up so I've been thinking about astro turf - they sell it in the B&Q near me so I could do it myself, but do folks think it'd look silly?

my sister has it, it looks really good although it wasnt cheap. One of my friends has the smaller pile cheaper stuff and it looks like green carpet

You have to put a good weedproof membrane underneath, tho - a friend of mine now has real weeds growing through her astroturf lawn!

Get good stuff and it looks nice. I saw some in Cliveden and RHS Wisley, so even posh places have it.
