Aerating the lawn

not sure what has happened to our grass this winter. it looks like it has been churned up and is all muddy with not much grass left. What's the best way to safe it? do we aerate it and then grass seed it? is it too early to do it? or do we start again and get new turf?

Aerating is a good start. If it doesn't perk up in a couple of weeks, rake it over and spread some grass seed. Keep the birds off it though! Grass seed generally only germinates when the temperature is over 6 degrees Celsius so you might want to wait a little later in the year for seeding. If you're still having frosts, stay off the grass! If it doesn't recover after reseeding then you're probably best to returf it. Try the seeds first though (much cheaper). Good luck.

Thank you unremarkable. We did it on sunday and now it's got cold again! The birds are having a feast!
