Tu late for Tulips?

We have some tulips which did not get planted in January.

Can we palnt them now, or will they keep for next year?

if in the frozen north, go for it. however spring appears to have arrived in the south, where, i regret to say, it s probably now too late

Have some languishing in my utility room too... Will they last until autumn not planted or should I just bung them in and hope they come up next year?

Oh all right then I have some £5 for 50 tete a tete daffodil bulbs which I planted yesterday in a pot

Start them in pots of compost; keep outside, but don't let get waterlogged.

They'll be better off in compost, where they can decide if they want to grow/flower. If they do well, plant out in garden.

Ok, worth a shot... How deep do I need to plant them in compost in pots?

Two or three times the depth of the bulb, I guess.

I have childhood memories of grandparents planting them with bulb just barely covered.

You can not wait over a year to plant them, the bulbs will die. Tulips need cold to bloom. If you missed your window you can do what people living in warm countries do (or what I did when I baught tulips in the depth of a Canadian winter) plant them in little pots and store them for 4-6 weeks in the fridge, keep the soil lightly moist. Then plant them in the ground and you are set. With bulbs the thumb rule is plant them in a hole three times their hight. But if you have squirrels you need to plant your tulips 30 cm deep or they will get eaten. It's supposed to allow the bulb to bloom for some extra years too.

It would be interesting to know what the latest is that anyone has planted tulips with a successful flowering outcome!
