I just found a whole load of tulip bulbs in the shed that I meant to plant before Christmas! Do you think it's still worth planting them?

I can't see that it will do any harm. I planted daffs once in January and they came up.

Maybe plant them in a tub rather than the garden, to keep them a bit warmer.

Love it that people on mumsnet can own up to the realities of gardening!

I hope so, I planted mine last weekend. has just been to mild really to plant them.

I always advise people in this situation to START them off in pots of suitable compost, leave outside but not where they will get waterlogged or battered by winds.

Depending how they progress in pots, if they look like they MIGHT flower, then you can plant out into the garden. It is quite likely, however, any flowers may be rather small in the first year.

Thanks all for the advice, I will try some pots then, fingers crossed!

Thanks for asking that, OP , I'll plant my unidentified sprouting bulbs in a pot tomorrow.
