I've seen several in front suburban front gardens so it's fairly common. No pictures I'm afraid but I'll describe it:
Smallish bush, sometimes grown as a hedge, with bright pink (almost highlighter pen pink) flowers, and fruits that look a bit like apples but slightly smaller. The fruit are very hard and green through summer and autumn with a sharp but perfumy scent. They hang on the tree over winter and eventually turn yellow.
I've wondered about it for ages, saw another one today and thought I'd try asking!
