I need to fill a space with 2 pref evergreen shrubs, light green ideally. My bed looks very dull at the moment. Not choisya or euyonomou

Gosh, light green is a tricky one - most evergreens that I would recommend (things like viburnums) have darker leaves. I've tried to think of variegated things that might do the trick with white, silver or gold highlights depending on your colour scheme

  • Fatsia japonica variegata - cream margins to those lovely big leaves
  • Pittosporum tenuifolium variegatum is quite lovely and silvery. It really brightens up a dark corner of my garden
  • One of the variegated/marbled photinias that has white or pink accents
  • Daphne odora 'Aureomarginata' - £££ to buy but lovely and will scent the whole garden in the winter
  • Elaeagnus - either the gold variegated (Elaeagnus × ebbingei 'Gilt edge') or the silver-leaved one ('Quicksilver')

The following are cheap in Aldi at the moment (£1.79 a pop)

  • Silver or gold-edged hollies
  • Variegated hebe - a smaller choice, but has lovely flowers in summer.

Abelia? They flower in late summer and there are some variegated varieties. Is it a sunny spot? Some cistus can get big enough to be classed as a `medium' shrub.

I have a pittosporum that's a lime green.
i also love the green in cornus alba Elegantissima but it's not evergreen
Love Daphne Orora as Shove suggests above too
