Look s like a Japanese anemone..It's a right bloody thug.

Pretty though. And can grow quite tall which is nice if you're looking for some height in the border

Methe - Why is it a thug? I agree it can be difficult to dig out when the time comes to do so, but it is very tolerant and trouble-free otherwise I would have thought.

mu mum always complains it is a thug, but I love it, it is hard to kill and looks lovely and you can dig it out where you don't want it.

It seeds everywhere and will regrow a from the tiniest bit of root.

Ahh! I asked about Japanese anemones and thuggishness at a nursery stall when I was at Tatton Park. The guy told me that some are far more thuggish and rhizomatous than others, so it depends a bit on the variety. The new hybrids are apparently very well behaved.

Though I have to say that there are a lot uglier thugs than this one! I think they are lovely.
