Can anyone identify this,please?

Its about 5/6 ft tall.

I was given it,and I love it!

Could be a variety of Rudbeckia

I wondered that Rooster.
I've also vaguely heard of perennial sunflowers and wondered if that might be it.

I think rudbekia too - the centre doesn't look very sunflower-like in the picture

The leaves look like Rudbeckia leaves as well.

I'm planning for next year!
I used to grow a lot of Rudbeckia in my old garden, time to introduce it here I think.
Mind you, looking online there are so many beautiful varieties its going to be a challenge to make a decision.

It is! I'm currently enjoying my over planting of sweet peas - can't pick them fast enough.

Can I beg to differ and suggest Heliopsis? Not that it really matters - it's a lovely yellow 'sunflower' that's making you smile! Just watch it isn't the one that runs through the border swamping everything in its path...

I'm inclined to support Heliopsis too, (though I wouldn't have known until suggested), but Rudbeckia invariably has a dark centre:

Heliopsis is not very tall. Rudbeckia has many forms, I used to sell plants.

I jave to say that while the flower looks like that of the heliopsis,the height doesn't appear to tally.

The buds in the photo don't look like Rudbeckia buds. It could be a type of helianthus eg H. rigidus or even jerusalem artichoke. Does anyone recognise it as that?

Looking it up,it could well be helianthus rigidus!

I am intrigued now.Having checked it with my jerusalem artichokes I am growing elsewhere (but aren't yet flowering) the leaves look similar and have the same rough texture.
However,I thought,from having grown jerusalem artichokes many years ago,the flowers were pretty but quite small.I may well recall that wrongly though.
These flowers have a diameter of about 3 ".
I'm really really curious now for a definitive answer!

If it's so similar to jerusalem artichoke it is probably a helianthus. What about the person who gave it to you, do they know its name?

It was a distant relative.
I probably could find out but I'd have to go about the houses.
However,I think any mention of jerusalem artichoke would has stuck ,and its likely the name would have been mentioned at some point.

I was going to suggest helianthus Lemon Queen. I don't think any rudbeckia would be that tall.

You beat me to it, Maud! I think it's a Helianthus too - they can reach that height. They grow great drifts at RHS Harlow Carr and they look glorious this time of year.
