what have I done to my baskets? (Pics)

Please help. I bought some lovely ready made baskets, they blossomed and looked great. I've fed them, watered them ensuring not to water in direct sunlight. I've dead headed them and really thought I was looking after them.

But now they look terrible! See before and after pics.

They have taken a battering in the recent crazy rain then sun I suppose.

Can I save them?

That looks fine. What do you think is the problem?

They have gone scatty and the leaves are brown.
There hasn't been any new buds either.
They look terrible now.

Perhaps the flowers are dying? They won't last forever you know. Most flowers only bloom for a cew months at most. Time to plant something else in the baskets?

I can't see your photos but my baskets were looking terrible so I transplanted them into pots and the plants have recovered and thrived.

I cut off any dead bits. I think they were a but overcrowded.

Maybe consider transferring them to pots?

Ahhhh I didn't realise they wouldn't last. I thought is have at least a few more weeks. I'll cut back and see if they are over crowded, failing that I'll try to repot. I now have neighbours hanging baskets jealousy! Ha.

Have you been dead heading? (Pulling off dead flowers) This encourages regrowth. I think from what I can see that they are trailing petunias, you should expect around 10 weeks of good life from them after they have initially flowered.

Petunias can get very long and straggly, with the stems and leaves looking half-dead except at the ends. Cut them back and feed them. Have you been watering them enough? A good soak every couple of days - enough to drip out of the bottom ofthe basket - is better than a daily trickle of water. Conversely, is the basket waterlogged?

I've dead headed, watered everything. I guess it's just time to get new ones then. They looked so lovely too! I hoped they would last the summer, well what we have had of a summer ha.

Have you used fertiliser? There are a lot of plants there and continuous flowering is hard work for the plants.

Are they somewhere very windy?

I used a weekly plant food, I do think the elements have something to do with it, we've had strong winds, rain and sun so they have taken a beating sadly .
