Strange problem with my potato plants

There was heavy rain the other night and a few of my potato plants fell over!
I put more soil around the base of the ones that had fell and mounded it up and they seem fine
There is heavy rain & wind forecast so I'm worried they may get damaged.
Is there anything I can do?
This is my first time growing potatoes, should they be so big?

Not an expert on potatoes, but I think the size is fine. Just keep adding soil as they grow. If you're worried about them being damaged maybe support them with sticks and stick?

Hopefully someone who knows more will be along shortly :)

Ours are huge, too. They luffs this weather. We have forgot to pile soil up on them, so thanks for the reminder.

I've has to stake up my potato plants!

BuddingGardener · 03/07/2015 18:23

Thanks I've bought 2 bags of soil
I've got beetroot in there as well can I mound that as well or do I only mound the potatoes?
I am new to gardening so didn't plant in rows, just scattered willy nilly Blush so it's very difficult to get near the middle & back. I won't do that again. There is a reason they are planted in rows.

We've never had ours fall over and we live on a windy hillside next time maybe plant them a bit deeper.
We grow lots but use machinery to plough and plant so I'm not much real help either.

I made the vegetable patch a few months ago I dug up the grass and put a few bags of soil on it. In hindsight I should have put a lot more soil down. It a steep learning curve this gardening isn't it?
