Help, what can I do with this rock face/weed bed?

This rock face is the view from my conservatory and it's a mix of rock and earth and is/was chock full of weeds. I've been trying to weed it the last two days, it's about 8ft high and I have to do a lot of the weeding from the top where there is a vaguely level flowerbed but it's really precarious trying to weed down the vertical drop...basically I think one of these days I'll fall.

Any ideas what I can do with this? I thought about taking the earth out and leaving bare stone but I don't think that's possible as it seems to be filled in with a hell of a lot of earth, so I think my only option is to leave it covered with soil.

What could I plant to cover all the earth and hopefully not leave space for a load of weeds to come back through? Or any other suggestions welcome

There is a lovely tiny fern there!

Have a look at the Chelsea websites or on TV, and see what other people are doing with their rocks faces.

Be better to do the weeding from a ladder wouldn't it? If you can get out the worst of the weed, it could be a really good feature. Alpines and little succulents could go in crevices.

A wild plant I love, that grows in places like that, is navelwort, the fleshy leaves are always cool to the touch:

Try and find some 'rock gardens' websites, and I think you could make it really super. What is the rest of the garden like? (I will pretend I didn't see the washing and the dog.)

Thanks Ferguson, yes there are lots of lovely ferns there. A ladder is not so easy as you'd think as the bottom of the rock face juts out a lot further than the top, however I did have a brain wave yesterday about using a hoe on it! Thanks for your ideas though and I will check out Pinterest I think.

Here are a couple more pics, the garden is gorgeous (I only moved in in December so I can't take the credit forit, however I did spend 7 hours weeding yesterday! shock )

A swoe might help to weed that rockface.

Once weeded:

I'd make a wet clay seed bomb with a loose mix of wildflower seeds in it - poppies, daisies, valerian etc, and push the clay into the crevices. Plus if there is space, buy a few alpines like alpine mint, thyme etc, split into about 10 slices and slide those into the cracks, again you can use wet clay to stick them in.
