Help! What is this plant?

We bought two of these plants last year and put them in the garden but I have no idea what they are (it's a new garden and I wrote down the names of all the other plants that we bought except this one Blush). However, now they are not doing too well and some of the leaves are shrivelled up. Does anyone know what they are and what I can do to help them - just remove the affected leaves or something else? They are currently in full sun (the only place that we had dug all of the rubbish from the soil last year) so may need moving. Thanks!

Looks like acanthus mollis. Happy in sun in my garden, but unless watered the leaves do die down in summer and come back in the autumn.

Although when my leaves die down for the summer they don't look like that, just normal wilting and yellowing. Is there anything behind the leaves? Maybe a pest?

Definitely Acanthus Mollis aka Bears Breeches.

Thanks all. Acanthus mollis was one of the plants that I'd written down! Oops. Will check the back of the leaves tomorrow.

And they have tall spikes of flowers.

BUT if ever you want to move them or get rid of them, the roots can go down about a metre. We spent years getting rid of them!
