What's more important, length or width?

Hi all

About to put a deposit down on a greenhouse (my first!) but was having second thoughts about size. We have worked out that we could manage a 6x10 and, at a push, an 8x10 although with the bigger size, it would be less pleasant around it (access a bit tighter, frame building more difficult, trimming hedges around it ect). Am i right in thinking that length matters more than width? How valuable/important/practical would the extra 2'' width be?

Thanks a lot
F

We don't have a greenhouse now, though we did for many years, until it and its base rotted away. Unfortunately, I don't know what size it was though.

But I guess it wasn't any more than 6 ft wide. Looking at web sites, the great majority seem to be 6 ft wide.

I also notice there are alternative kinds of glass, and this might interest you:

Contrary to the prevailing view that girth is better than length, for greenhouses I reckon you're right!

(I should emphasize that I'm getting my first greenhouse today, so this is by no means any kind of expert view. I had a similar dilemma, but at a smaller scale - 6x6 versus 8x6 and I figured the extra length would be useful, but I wasn't bothered by extra width).

Thanks Ferguson, that's a good read!

Shovetheholly-I guess we'll never know the answer for sure but glad someone came to the same conclusion! Enjoy the greenhouse!
